Hi gerrymac. Well this shot is really alot of trail and error. But the basic set up is this...

A shallow bowl such as a T-Light holder
A box of Kelloggs Corn flakes
A Flash unit with off show lead.
A Macro lens or close filter.

Step 1

Fill a dish with about 2mm of water. Find the centre of it and then put an object in the water such as a screw standing up, this will be your target point to where you are going to drop the water drips as well as a focus point.

Step 2

Use a plastic bag such as a sandwish or shopping bag to hold the water. Hang it on a handle of a kitchen cupboard handle above the dish of water.

Step 3

Place your camera on a tripod and focus on the object "screw" you placed in the water.

Step 4

Position the Kelloggs box "or anything else you want" about 30cm behind the water dish

Step 5

Place the flash to the left or right of the dish facing the kelloggs box.

Step 6

Make a very small hole in the water bag and adjust the water drips so they hit the screw in the centre of the water dish most of the time. Focus your lens on the screw then set the lens to F8 or F16. Once you are sure you are in focus remove the screw and start shooting at about ISO 200 or 400 with a shutter speed of at least 200 or faster.

Thats the basics of it. Try listen to the water drops to get the timing right in my case "I turn up my hearing aids lol" Try using different depths of water in the dish as this produces different splash effects!

Just play about with it and see what you get.
