First experiments, with a DIY softbox on a Vivitar 273 portable flashgun at about 45deg to the camera's left, triggered via optical slave from a hotshoe-mounted Sunpak pointing up and bounced off at reflector placed directly above the camera...

Youve done a good job with the equipment you have, and a very cute model.

I have a couple of suggestions, which Im sure you probably already know about:

The background is a little distracting, - try to have her further away from it, and blur it with a relatively shallow dof (you dont mention which aperture you used. Or use a plain background, - black velvet can work well if shes sitting on a chair/couch and cant move away too much.

The lighting is quite good, though I would check the white balance with this lighting, - put a plain white or grey card in the same light, take a shot, and use this to calibrate white balance.

Crop a little off the bottom, - not only to remove the text on the book, but to place the eyes on a third.

Ive loaded a mod with all of the above incorporated, - and have used curves to calibrate white and black.

Hope this is useful

Regards

Willie

Williie...Liked your modification..Frankly I felt my lighting was wrong...the softbox was at or below her face level, not pointing down from above...I know she was sitting right up against the backgrouind but she was comfortable there...yes, the background should have been black ideally but this bedsheet was all i could rustle up at short notice....I did calibrate white balance with a grey card. The exposure (confirmed by a Polaris Flash meter) was F8...
