His statue stands outside his favourite house where he spent happy Summers in Cascais. He was brutally assassinated 01.02.1908 together with his eldest son and heir. His wife, Queen Amelia, had nothing except a bouquet of flowers she was carrying, but she used that in a fearless way to try beat off the assassin. A brave woman.
