I have witnessed four different pairs of kingfisher during their breeding season, and have had a Natural England licence for three years enabling me to achieve this. The photography during this time is quite challenging, and many photos would not be good enough for use in competition. Having said that, some people like to follow the progress of the breeding kingfishers.
Arthur & Guiney are digging their nest and it is nearly complete. Photos are of this morning’s activity.

So very envious, to see another stage of their partnership, and the new home they are building
as there are the two there
these are so perfectly crisp and amazingly shot
The story starts now Alan...

Great and fascinating series Alan. Do they dig a new hole each year or clean out and rebed last years?

They do both at different times. This pair are digging from an old hole, but may not follow the same course. They maybe just using the entrance to get the hole started.

so exciting know it all starts again, shall look forward to the next chapter

Just fabulous images Alan. So interesting to see how they make their nests. The site is so slow tonight, I'm not sure if V2 or V3 are the same image or 1 is not opening. I've tried and tried going back and forth between them but they seem to be the same image...........Sandy

A fantastic set of captures, Alan, and so interesting. I particularly like the timing of V.4.
I'm with Sandy in thinking that V's 2 & 3 are the same image.
