This was taken in in the memorial peace gardens at York Minster, York, uk. There is a chapel dedicated to the Kohima Veterans inside the Minster. The photo depicts a personal memory of a soldier. His cap badge looks like the 'Dorsetshires' to me. The battle for kohima, Dimapur, and Imphal in the north east area of india which became a siege, centred upon Kohima, where the famous "Battle of the tennis court" was fought against insurmountable odds against the Japanese Army. The poem is attributed to John Maxwell Edmonds.Follow the link for more info...
