As an experienced lurker in the darker parts of Venice, I love pushing the ISO high (sometimes to the highest) for the grainy feel that many digital photographers seem to despise. For web viewing I see no problem and it helps enhance the results of my nocturnal peregrinations. In this case I pushed it up to ISO 1600 on my trusty old Lumix GF1 with my recently acquired 20mm lens.
A gondola moves almost without a sound, and at night many are not seen until the last moment. As I got to the top of the bridge I fumbled for my camera and snapped fast and hoped the autofocus would be in the right place. Well, almost. Phew!
I dedicate my effort to my late husband Laing Donaldson, whose love of Venice only just surpassed mine.
