It was very kind of them to put this lamp on early, it would have looked good in the twilight but I'd had enough of the crowds of tourists by this time.
The Shard and Southwark Bridge on the River Thames. v2 is the postcard version
Iso100, f16, 1/160s @32mm.
Like this very much Dave. Very nice comp and like that tone that you have chosen. Can't see a V2 though. Moira
Aha am impatient, it is there now. Very nice in colour but do prefer the V1 version. Moira
Morning Dave I do like the mono version cracking shot
The toning in version one for me Dave.
Excellent Dave, a super composition,
Hi Dave welcome back, Two quality Images, I would not pick one as I think they are both excellent. V1 has su.....Johnper processing
Two superb images Dave - like the simplicity of the tones in V1 but also the bright colours of V2.
Both the images are excellent. But I prefer V2.
Beautifully balanced and composed, Dave.
V1 (b/w) has the edge for me.
The toning in V1 has more impact for me..Compliments the f/g lamp.. Great tourist free comp too.
Lovely composition Dave
with the Shard in the background
standing proudly along with all the different shaped buildings and topped
with the Thames leading you along..perfect!
London...isn't she beautiful?
V2 for me
Ahh the Shard, cannot wait to see it in July....great capture, also think that V1 works better as tones so great
Ok I'm not being sycophantic, or having a favourite, but I have given you my UA because of the amazing luminance you have captured in the lamp in v1, it simply lifts this image to a different level for me.
Nicely done Dave
V1 stands out for me..................in colour the image looks drab but in V1 it pops................weird, I thought it would be the other way round..................
two great images Dave !! I think v1 is superb with excellent composition
I think of sepia as giving an old fashioned feel to an image, which seems strange with some very modern buildings. Of the two I like v1 the best, but just wonder if black and white would be more in keeping with the modern architecture. Of course it is a great composition and that lit lamp is a real bonus
Great shot love the b/w version
V1 of 2 bellters, super comp dave.
I like the treatment in V1, makes a great image
Really can't decide between these two. Normally go for colour 99% of the time but love the treatment in V1.
V 1 is a true winner.
Also love the lamp in V2.....could younot have that in colour in a mono version?
I agree with Ann in the above comments Dave
Both are Brilliant
The lamp post balances well with the Shard in a good composition: like Helen, I'd perhaps have preferred a B and W version rather than sepia, but that's just me.
The original coloured version is my favourite though, Dave.
A really good composition and for me works best in Colour. I go along with Ronnie's thoughts that B and W might work better than sepia.
Tip top Dave with that lamp being so important to your composition.
Well balanced composition
A fine capture and the gentle sepia tint seems very appropriate. Well done.
V1 for me, Dave. Otherwise, all been said!
Colour version for me, not too keen on sepia skies but that's just my preference.
Wonderful! I like the colour best as the sepia is a bit drab. We were in London for 2 days last week and saw the Shard, it's a great building!
Two excellent versions of this striking London scene, Dave!
Superb composition, as always, and wonderful presentation.
2 great images, V1 for me
Lovely image and most effective in black and white!
The colour is really very good, Dave. I share the view expressed by various earlier commentators that sepia always suggests olde-worlde photos: fine for the lamp and the Embankment, less so for the Shard; a 'straight' and fairly hard b&w might be more in keeping with 2013. Not that I'm complaining because the composition itself stands out, is enviable in fact, while the removal of RGB emphasises the contrasting lines of the architecture. Despite my (slight) reservation it's a cracking shot.
It also reminds me of the classic scene in Father Ted from which I need only quote 'Small - - - Far away'
I still love V2
A great composition. My winner today is V1, it makes the shot more interesting IMO
Great tonal range in V1. The trick is in the light in the lamp & the light patch towards the base of Shard which gives a connect. Si.
The Shard is so iconic already in it's short life and makes a great FP in any image. I think I prefer the colour V2 which seems to give more depth. Although the colour of the foliage contrasts nicely I'd have liked to see it out of frame (i.e. not see it) to simplify the comp, were that possible. From my own recent foray into urban photography I know just how tricky composing can be! Some nice clouds in the sky and the illumination from within the lamp adds a nice surreal touch.
Love the mono version Dave, great.
I also love the sepia treatment, looks so smooth and timeless in spite of the buildings.
V1 is much more interesting and easy on the eye.
The sepia tones version for me, Dave. The contrast between the stark, cold lines of The Shard and the rounded, ornate form of the lamp are a stroke of genius as far as comp goes.
Although almiles didn't like the bottom left foliage, I do like it's inclusion softening an other wise urban image.
I love the sepia - old or new.
Nice capture, Dave, I like the contrast between the old style lamp and the modern Shard in the background Like both versions, but the colour wins it for me...but only just!
New territory for you I think, Dave and very effective the sepia tint is too. Great shot.
Very good comp Dave, the verticals all work well together, I like them both.
A different image, nicely processed.
I like the use of the wall and the bridge to take the eye into the image. I also like the use of the statics in the lamp and the shard.
Yet another mastercalss from the smoke.
Very nice viewpoint Dave - not sure quite why but I think I prefer v2
good composition Dave V1 is a winner for me
Nice point of view... I prefer V1. Beautiful shot, Dave.
Good choice of toning and I like the composition too.
Like your comp Dave and the tonning suits this well
Strong composition, two good images.
Dave, stunning clarity...........very nice image mate.
Stunning images and the tones are spot on dave
Superb image Dave, looks great both ways.
I always think they have still to finish the top of that structure Dave.
Actually,I think they have.I reckon they ran out of money for it !!
Wonderful. Such a fine view of the Shard.
Love the comp' with that lamp in the f/g.
I go against most opinion here in that I prefer the
Very well done.
A lovely composed image. I like V1 with the toning as it adds to the shot.
V2 with the blue bridge a little out from natural for me. Well done Dave.
Another great image Dave..Lin
V1 just beats V2 but it's not an easy choice with two good images like these.
Both are excellent Dave, but I prefer V1, I think works better.
Both excellent with a pleasing composition Dave - I think I would prefer v1 by a tad as the sepia seems to have a more moody feel to it. Maybe just the traditional response of the elderly (me) to an old form of color toning! A
