I know they're about as common a butterfly as you'll ever likely to see, but lets be honest here, it's not very often you get the chance to fire off a few frames like this as the species are just so darn flighty and rarely sit still long enough to get a goodish shot like this, especially at the time of day this was captured. So whilst they may be very common and seen on almost any day of the summer, I'm rather pleased with this one, especially as it's straight out the camera with the exception of a border being added and a little sharpen.

Many thanks once again for all the comments and vote on yesterdays image, it proved to be a lot more popular than I though it would be. Thanks for stopping by, regards as always to all.......Ade

Pin sharp, excellent colour and nice background. So few butterflies around you were lucky to get this one. Lovely shot.

I don't take any of these flying beauties for granted anymore Ade. There is always something new to notice about them! This is a cracking capture and good to get as you say they are flighty and not sitters or posers really! Lou

Common, maybe but that does not detract prom the beauty. One of the things I love about photography is it highlights and brings to our attention the beauty that is all around that we do not always notice

I'd never have the patience for this type of photography, Ade, so all kudos.

This works particularly well thanks to the contrast between the paleness of the flutterby and the rich colour of the thistle.

This looks more than just goodish, Ade!

And it's never a waste to grab a shot of any butterfly 'cos you might end up with a better shot than any previous shot you've had Smile

Glad to see it on knapweed or thistles rather than on my cabbages!Wink The details, colours and composition are spot on as always and as you say they rarely stay still for long unless they are laying eggs on brassicas at the allotment or in the garden!
