As per the original a grand composition and capture I have done two mods , in both cases highlights and cloned the car and yellow lines out in one aged the image in nero in the other used the levels in lightroom to sharpen and highlights and shadows .... Colin

Hi Susan,
Had a shot at a mod. - not sure what you'll make of it. I though it best to try and remove anything that obviously smacked of the 20th/21st. Century. I should also have cloned out the TV aerials - just realised I had forgotten them. Sorry!
Ronnie.

Thank you Colin and Ronnie - it is defo better without the car and the brick building at the end of the road just adds depth to the capture - whereas I had removed it in my upload. I do like the vivid colours of the buildings in this street and would prefer they are kept, although Colin's desaturated mod is interesting.

What I really want to know is ...... how do you make the changes so quickly? Takes me ages and then I give up most of the time and simply post the original more or less as it came out of the camera - you are so clever! x

Practice and more practice I spent so long on my first attempts and nine times out of ten binned them and started again, once you have the basis then subtle changes are relatively easy... also you need a good image to start with , and you certainly provided that Colin

Hi Susan, I'll send you a PM explaining what I did, probably in the middle of the night when my customary insomnia kicks in. Regards, Ronnie.
(PS. Do you have Photoshop Elements 6? R.)

Ronnie - No I have paint shop pro photo x2 and NX Capture and something called painter essentials (which I don't use at all!) My lovely grandson said he would do a copy of CS4 for me but I am still waiting! Best not ask any questions! x I can usually figure out what to do in psp though if I am told the instructions for photoshop - though I ps is probably better than psp. x

Hi Sue,
Got the message!
I've uploaded a mod. with all the relevant tweaks explained beneath.
As Colin has said, you've provided a good image to begin with which is half the battle.
I carried mine out as soon as I saw your message and before I realised that Colin and Ronnie had already done theirs so it's fortunate that i took a slightly different route to either of them!
If you're moving up to Photoshop, (I've got CS2 which I used here) you'll find it an enormous learning curve. I've never used CS4 although I'd love to have the opportunity but I imagine it will be even more challenging than CS2.
Anyway, I hope the mod meets with your approval!
Jester

It was just the modern bit and pieces, mainly the car, and when that is taken away it's a lovely image.

The mods are all great. You are all right when you say the car needs to go. And, Mudge, yes I do like and approve. Your versions with no TV aerials give the street a whole new look. (perhaps the property owners should take up photography and join this site, then they would not have time to watch TV and could take their aerials down!) Jester's mod with the lovely line free roadway is lovely and love the grainy look to that one.

Colins's mods are smashing but like his coloured one best (Lavenham is full of wonderful colour and it whats makes the place) Ronnie- love them all and thank you for the ideas and inspiration, and your time and efforts and kindness.

~And Gary, did I say "copy" - a slip of the fingers on the old keyboard!

A perfectly good technical exercise, but you really cannot live with a modern car and road markings in such an obvious record image. Simple cropping gets rid of most problems, then a little cloning does the rest.

Elements does a perfectly good job as does PSP with all the necessary tools at sensible legal prices. I use CS3, which cost an arm and two legs, but which is really not necessary for most photography. it also has a steep learning curve.

To get a really good image here, you needed a bit of dramatic lighting in the first place - not always on order.

Paul

I think the car is essential in this along with the curve of the curb, hence the mod

I can remember visiting this delightful place a few years ago on a coach holiday of 'Constable Country'. It's always a shame that someone parks their car right in view of such a beautiful scene. Very nicely captured, though, Sue - car or no car!
