I never get tired of photographing these birds, they're so fascinating to look at and sometimes, like today, strike an interesting pose!

This is a breeding male Southern Masked Weaver and we call him Mr. Bright Spark because he lights up our garden every morning.

Thanks for all your kind comments.

Maybe I should stop putting vodka in their drinking water! Seriously though, it was just luck that he moved just as I fired the shutter. There are three other shots in the sequence where he's just standing still.

The trick with birds is to know their behaviour so you can predict what they're going to do. This guy flies into our tree, has a look around, flies down onto the garden wall and hops back and forward checking the ground below for predators (i.e. our neighbours' cats!) before jumping down onto the lawn for a piece of bread. From landing in the tree to flying off with the bread takes about 30 seconds so I have to be ready for him. In this shot I caught him just as he was hopping from one side of the wall to the other. Right place, right time.

Watch out for another unusual shot of 'Sparky'!!
