Would like to thank everyone for the votes and comments re Steeton Parish Churh V2. I was overwhelmed by the kind comments. All greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Back to the Canal. Have got two that have been processed differently. Both slightly different takes of the same scene. V1 virtually nothing done to it other than crop the tow path from the right and lightened the shadows a tad under the trees on the right. V2 fiddled with the Shadows/Highlights tool in PS then a little selective sharpening. But also think it may need a slight twist cw. Just wanted to get peoples thoughts of the two.

Cheers John

Both images good John, but for me, I prefer the slightly darker V1. Also like the addition of the duck Grin. Moira

Two beautiful images John. Hard to decide if any one is better than the other. Perhaps V2 just might have the edge

I'm with Kate and Jim and sticking my neck out, V2 is twice the value of V1. The path tells the story so much more clearly than V1. TG

Morning John, v2 for me. v1 just a bit too dark still and you don't see as much of the narrow boats although the composition is pretty good especially with the duck there. v2 has a lot more detail, more depth, and the boats have been separated from the bridge. The horizon is also further up the frame giving that depth and a better balance.

V1 for me - doesn't seem dark on my monitor and the tonal range bars at the bottom of this page are also clearly delineated.

A very peaceful scene with nice use of perspective. Good on you for waiting to get the duck in the image - it brings it to life.

Both lovely, almost pastoral scenes, John, which work well for me. I think I prefer V2 - I like the minimal Shadows/Highlights treatment.

Regards.

V1 is very serene, but a bit frustrating. To move in 1/3rd for more boats, white bridge and less sky, one would have to write off the mallard. I like mallards. TG

V1 for me - and why? Well I find it more natural - I know there is more detail in v2 but it has had quite a bit of sharpening. I also like the lower pov and the duck is the added bonus SmileSmile

Hi John,

Both nice captures but my vote goes for V2, nice to see your playing around with the sliders Wink

John I think it does need a very slight twist to the right and the midtones need a slight adjustment (see mod). To alter the midtones go to "Levels" and move the middle pointer (grey) very slightly to the right this will dampen down the glare a little. Next use your "Dodge" & "Burn" tools set to around 4% and gentley sweep the dodge over the dark clouds and the burn over the white clounds, this will give the sky a little more definition.

Keep playing John, good shots.

DOH! the dodge and burn should be the other way round, burn on the dark and dodge on the light. GrinWink

Two very nice shots. You can tell V2 has the depth with processing.
But my choice is V1 it just has a little more impact on me.
Well done. WesternRed.

I like the V2 with good depth creating nicer colour and magic light.
Well done. WesternRed.
