Having endured a gale and witnessed a uniformly grey dawn, we returned, dejected, back through the woods towards the car park. Feeling the sun on my back I turned around just in time to see The Old Man spotlighted and the early morning sun falling on the path behind us. It wasn't what I'd imagined but I was happy to get just the one shot.

Hello Alun,

your image is truly stunning!

A wonderful composition, that is very atmospheric - if that's the right word!

The location is beautiful.

Frank.

Almost bypassed this in the thumbnail. Bloomin' glad I had a proper look because it's a corker of an image and a different take on a popular location. Nice one.

Wonderfully atmospheric. When you see the hills in cloud like this, I've always understood why people thought that gods lived on mountain tops!

A superb landscape with a very different f/g to most views seen of the Old Man. A most attractively composed image with strong lead in lines from the stream. The pinacle hghlighted with the darker cliff behind could not be better.

What a fantastic scene, Alun! The sun in the foreground and the gloom in the background. Love the colors and the diagonal lines - goes into my favorites.

Oh I remember that walk!! We did it in the snow, and it was soooo hard!! Sad
It's a better shot than any I managed, as the conditions were dire for us also!

Thanks guys. At the top the winds were incredible. I was able to lean into the wind at a 45 degree angle! There was no way any shot was possible even with the tripod legs splayed wide. After the walk through the woods in pre-dawn darkness it was a disappointment but this shot reminded me of the importance of glancing behind you!
I bet it would have been great in the snow with the right light, Phil. Thanks all for the votes and comments.
