Flushed with success from my first flower upload I thought I'd try again. This is a Ceanothus, aka California Lilac, and also a New Jersey Tea plant as its leaves were used as a black tea substitute in colonial times.
Back garden, Iso200, f11, 1/125s, 100mm, tripod and remote release, natural light.
Many, many thanks for your views and comments on 'Yellow', greatly appreciated.
A bright sunny day today to balance England's dismal performance last night.
Enjoy your day wherever you are.
Dave

Lovely colourful flower - I'm afraid our lilacs were a washout this year, but this is in excellent condition. Lovely capture with the insect well placed to stand out from the flower
Helen
Hi Dave, you have done very well with this! The light is quite harsh and normally the flower gets burnt out, you have controlled the exposure perfect my friend, I would like to see a square crop of the main flower to bring the hover fly larger as it looks pin sharp to me.
Regards
Trev.
A real cracker not least with the inclusion of that lovely wee visitor. Great colour and light in the flower too. One of my favourite garden shrubs but you've taught me something I didn't know about it this morning! I really can make tea from those leaves - wonder if I'll be brave and give it a try?

The subject is nice and sharp and the background is good
soft out of focus. But for me the middle depth of field
is distracting. I think Trev suggestion is good.
I saw these first in Scarborough ... amd am now seeing them everywhere
yes looking at the comment the square crop will work non the less a fine detailed capture good light and exposure control
Graham
Didn't have you down as a flower power tog, Dave
But when you first come out of the closet, you do it in style, that I'll say. Marvellous angle on the light here, bringing out the very best of its colours and hues.
I'll resist any jokes about the English team, at least they got to the finals unlike my beloved bunch of useless.........rant over![]()

Wonderful image, fabulous colours and great dof.

Many thanks to Trev and others re the square crop. I have uploaded a quick crop and also allowed for mods. I uploaded the original as I liked the patterns of the negative space in the background, and the buds and leaves framed the open flower well. The tall stem worked to join the image together. I like the square crop, but as a separate image which emphasises the insect now.

Well coloured shots here Dave.
And I was delighted England got beat.
No,--nothing to do with the fact that I am Scottish.
I have a friend who works in an Italian take away, and he promised me a free pizza if Italy won.
I would have still been delighted if it was Scotland they had beat !!
Mick.
Surely you mean 'blooming with success' from your last floral upload? ![]()
The crop has worked well focussing attention on the flower with the delayed gratification (so to speak) of noting the hoverfly. Focus on the fly is excellent and the colours are lovely.
Generally speaking macro's 'pop' better with a blurred background and even on your crop, the flower head would benefit from a shallower DoF. Means you have to be handy with the focus ring and live view to capture a fast moving insect on a sunny day but it does increase the overall impact!

Two cracking close-ups, Dave...with the bonus of a hover-fly, too! ![]()

Flower power now is it Dave.. 2 excellent images which you have controlled excellently IMHO
I do like the crop on v 2 which brings out the close up details so well of the hover fly
Been out and about today trying to make the most of flat grey light ![]()
two beautiful uploads I like both but by a smidgeon V2 is my preference here
Both superb Dave,lovely light and colour,well captured..Lin
a fine composition, I just wonder how you got the bees trained to land right where you need them ![]()
oh silly me there is a fantastic v2 with an even closer hoverfly, well done.
Gosh, you got this colour... beautiful. I only have an old white one in front of my kitchen window..birds like it, sometimes long tail tits come to eat something on the tree.. I can't imagine what![]()
Excellentlly taken, beautiful light and colour, superb natural feeling and detail... I prefer V2, I can see better, with a BIG wasp(?) on it.. you are a brave man.. I would run away...![]()
