Have been away for a short while but went down to Ham Wall a few days ago to get some shots of Pochard, as I have very few in my archive.
The nature conservation people have built several small wooden floating platforms on one of the small lakes quite near a hide for birds to rest on and they are well used.
Soon after setting up I heard the fluting of a Redshank and was surprised to see only a single bird drop down (V1) and fly around inspecting the platforms.
An empty one was refused (V2) as too exposed.
Sharing with a Coot (V3) was not a good idea - Coots are grumpy!
The platform with a gull (V4)was turned down - considered to be scavenging yobs, no doubt.
He chose a platform with a swan and asked his permission very nicely and the swan bowed deeply in agreement (V5). They had a good scratch together (V6) and then had quite a long chat for about an hour (V7). Mostly, I am told, about the appalling problems of the NHS and other public services.
A passing Mallard popped in and joined the discussion and shortly after that they all composed themselves for a nap (V8).
I enjoyed this series of interactions very much and hope you like them too.
Oh! I got several shots of pochard and other species as well. (V9).
These are not composites.
Have a good weekend. A

An excellent and varied set of images of waterfowl and waders, I particularly like versions 1, 7, 8 and 9. I'm surprised you didn't bump into the Big O, epzer Ade Osman on your travels, this is one of his favourite stomping grounds and he's hard to miss pushing a fishing trolley and clad in full combat gear!![]()
Love your narrative - it would make a great illustrated story ![]()

Hark at Ed, he's a sod isn't he, he makes it sound like I'm off to battle in my camo gear
We were down there on Thursday as it happened and saw a nice Blue Winged Teal while we were there and had a very close fly past by the Bittern which pleased the wife no end. As for me, well I was too busy rooting around in the undergrowth trying to find macro subjects rather than worrying about the birds
Great series here mate, though the clincher has to be the last image, great timing shown in that......
Ade
gorgeous set I might choose V7 for the little and large with the red shank, well done
A wonderful 'story-board' Arthur. Straight forward shots then the story unfolds. Individually and collectively, a lovely set.
