This is the Celtic cross on Llanddwyn island that commemorates the death of Santes Dwynwen on the 25th of January in 465AD. Santes Dwynwen is the Welsh saint of lovers. There are several version of Santes Dwynwen story, all tragic. 25th of January is Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen (St. Dwynwen's Day) which is the Welsh equivalent to our St Valentines Day.
We had never been to the Llanddwyn before and stumbled our way across the island in the dark to be there before sunrise. Fortunately there was plenty of moon light and we carried a small torch. It wasn't until after sun up, that we found the nice gravel path back across the island!
