This image of Loch Shiel and The Glenfinnan Monument was taken last summer whilst on holiday in Scotland.
It was a dreich day!
The Glenfinnan Monument situated here at the head of Loch Shiel was erected in 1815 to mark the place where Prince Charles Edward Stuart ("Bonnie Prince Charlie") raised his standard, at the beginning of the 1745 Jacobite Rising.
The upper part of the statue of Bonnie Prince Charlie, at the top of the monument, can be seen in V2
If I turned through 180º I would be looking at the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
Many thanks to all who viewed, voted and commented on my ‘Put Your Best Foot Forward’ upload!
This will be my last upload for a few days.
Have a good week.
Richard

Another excellent image from your Scottish trip with typical Scottish weather (we do get sunshine too but it can be like this).
The sky adds to the image and perhaps reminds of those dark days of conflict.
Excellent image of the statue also. I'm still itching to get up there to catch that train!

I know the area well, Richard and your rendition is very good indeed.
The Glenfinnan Viaduct featured in a Harry Potter film - the steam train ride is thrilling..!
Your image of Bonnie Prince Charlie is really good; I really like the composition.

A properly moody highland image, you've managed the contrast in lighting well with saturated colour and a saturated-looking sky approaching down the glen!

Yet another stunner Richard, it has everything going for it; the monument as a distant focal point and then the loch itself just keeps the eyes going towards that moody weather in the background and framed by the mountains, what more does a photographer need.
