My planned sunset at a local loch failed, swallowed up by a bank of cloud so I went exploring at Dorback instead. This boulder really stood out even in the fading light, looking like a map of somewhere exotic with all the patterns. I liked the way it pointed in a similar direction to the wind-blown clouds. I used a couple of pops of hand held flash.

Beautiful shot Alan, lovely composition , depth and tones and with the cloud movement it adds to the involvement , you're getting really very good at this and the speed at which you produce all these quality shots is amazing Smile

Given the exposure time of 4 minutes there can hardly have been any visible light at all yet the sensor can pick up all this.......quite amazing.
Don't know how you do this sort of photography but you have got the method off to a "T" in this beautiful shot, Alan.
Love the way the clouds are portrayed in this long exposure and the colouring is so pleasing.
Ronnie.

Thanks Jeremy, Ronnie and ****! Those are very kind comments Smile
Jeremy, last year was definitely a big learning curve for me which I achieved largely thanks to the generosity and inspiration of epz members! My output is limited by work and family commitments but I guess I'm luck to have good scenery on my doorstep so don't need to travel far.

Looks bleak and desolate, Al, but with a hint of warmth from the colour in the cloud and lichen. The lighting on the boulder is spot on this time.

Lovely composition - well spotted. The lighting on the boulder and the movement in the sky is excellent.
