Beautifully caught, the details on the bird are stunning! ![]()
I hope you don't mind me saying, and it is only my opinion. I know the background is probably totally natural, but with the perfect lighting it almost looks as if you had it in a cardboard box - I wonder if a little less blurring in the background would make it seem more 'natural'. ![]()

This little bugger looks so lovely in every small detail. Great fluffy-thing-image.

Many thanks Karen, the bg is completely natural and is dead bracken which is about 10 feet behind the perches. With the 800 I want it to look like canvas. If I raise the perches the bg changes to green as there is a large holly growing behind, but that is a no no as holly produces too much bokeh in strong sun. To get any form of detailing to show the bg would meen shooting at about F22, and the changing light and changing settings would be too much and the bird would be gone unfortunately.
A very good point though.
A little charmer, Richard, perfect detail. I do agree with Karen, though, I would rather see just a tad of detail in the background, rather than a plain 'canvas', but I understand your explanation. Carol
There are different shades of brown in the bg, just scroll the image and you will see them, very fine changes mind you, but it is the bird that is the subject and that is what the author tries to get, the bg aids in the bird jumping out. Think of it like a studio shoot with a plain bg and then add a few minor textures.
Achievment as you cannot always control nature unlike in a studio.
Good points folks, but it aint easy in the wild. ![]()
I forgot to change the EPZ bg to black, that gives the eye a contrast to see the textures in the bg.
Some very good points made here about the background. I can see subtle changes in the tones and the eye is straight away drawn towards a superb Longy and textured perch. The colours from the perch blend naturally and with the bg the whole image comes together superbly.
Cracking capture and patience to wait for these in that cold wet field.

another great shot and i personally like it the way you have taken it !
Great work Richard, I really like the background the variations are subtle but IMHO that is the best type. I also struggle with BG that are clearly added after the event, very false looking.
All a matter of taste, thank god we are not all the same
David
The background is lovely have a lot of these myself that are perfectly natural, its ok to have distraction in the background when it looks good as an habitat shot but this is perfectly fine for me.
Many thanks everyone. Just back in from more shots like this. Too dam cold for a longer session, I will stick with the dead bracken as I really like it, come spring/summer it should give a slight contrast as more green comes through. Aint nature fun. You'll never catch me using a false one or manipulating after for a bg. I hate them and they stick out like the dogs ........... ![]()
Here was me thinking what a great bg that you had, then I started reading the comments. Had to go back and have another look, but going with my first instincts - definitely like the bg. Anyway, first class shot of this wee beauty, wish I could get a shot like this. It is so coy looking here. Moira
