A gorgeous portrait with a considered composition to bring the viewer in to share the moment between mother and son.
Looks like a very narrow depth of field here due to the telephoto and probably close to, if not widest aperture (no exif data to see) being selected. The focus point is clearly the centre of the image with the child's far eye the sharpest point. Although guidelines are made to be interpreted and used exactly as that, a guide, it is generally good practise with portraits to focus on the leading eye (closest to camera).
None the less a beautiful image
