Phil can you forgive me for being really honest and saying that this doesn't work visually for me? I have been trying to work out why, and I conclude that although the lady is sharp and the background not, the difference is not great enough bearing in mind the strong geometric shapes and contrast in the background. Your subject is in my eyes insufficiently differentiated from the background.
I wonder what would happen if she were in colour and the background in monotone - I've not tried that but I'm intrigued!
