Magnolia

I was lucky to catch the magnolias at all this year... I'd been closely following their progress in the "Volksgarten" park here in Duesseldorf for a couple of weeks and managed to knacker my dodgy ankle again just as they were coming good! Happily though, thanks to my best beloved managing to find a parking space within hobbling distance of the appropriate entrance to the park, I did manage a session after all - and surprised myself at the range of shots I managed to get from a single point!

This particular one was taken with my telephoto lens and I cropped it to square format because I felt it suited the shapes involved. I love how magnolias so flamboyantly announce spring with their masses of flowers and really like how the remaining petals of this flower seem to protect the heart of it while opening up to the emerging leaf and welcoming the progress of the season...

Exposure: ISO 200, 1/320th sec. @f6.3
PS Elements: "Darken highlights" colour curve applied, distracting blemishes cloned out/removed via healing brush, cropped to square format. Sharpened/bordered/framed.
