"Worker and Peasant" -
outstanding monumental art, "an ideal and a symbol of the Soviet era, is a dynamic sculptural group of two figures with outstretched over the heads with a sickle and hammer. Author - Vera Mukhina, concept and compositional design architect Boris lofan. The monument is made of stainless chromium-nickel steel. Height about 25 m (height of the pavilion, the pedestal - 33 m). Total weight - 185 tons. It was created for the Soviet pavilion at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937. Conceptual design of sculpture belonged to the architect BM Iofanu, won a tender for the construction of the pavilion. Architects while working on the bankruptcy project "very soon was born the image ... sculptures, boy and girl, who embody the masters of Soviet soil - the working class and collective farmers. They heaved the emblem of the Soviet Union - hammer and sickle. "On the creation of a" Worker and Collective Farm "lofan prompted, according to Secretary lofan, IY Eigel, the idea of an antique statue" Tiranobortsy "depicting Garmodiya and Aristogeiton, standing next to the sword in hands, and the sculpture "Winged Victory of Samothrace."
When transporting from Paris to Moscow damaged. In January-August 1939 the sculpture was reconstructed and mounted on a pedestal in front of the northern entrance to the Agricultural Exhibition (now OCE). Restored in 1979.

In 2003, the monument was dismantled on 40 fragments. The sculpture is intended to restore and return to the place in late 2005, however, because of problems with the financing of the reconstruction was delayed, and was completed only in November 2009. During the reconstruction specialists have strengthened support frame composition, all parts of the sculptures were cleaned and treated with special anti-corrosive compositions. The sculpture was installed on a new specially built for her pavilion-pedestal November 28, 2009 with a special crane. Inauguration of the monument took place in Moscow on December 4, 2009. The pedestal on which the sculpture is placed at 10 meters higher than the previous. In the pavilion, the pedestal will house an exhibition hall and museum of Vera Mukhina. Dismantling, storage and restoration of the legendary sculpture cost the budget of 2,9 billion rubles.
