Not so many of these beautiful butterflies around this year, but I did manage to capture this pair on the bougainvillea in the garden.
So colourful Carol superb close ups and captures.
Two wonderful images Carol.
Hard choice ths morning Carol but I think V1
wins by a notch - like the way the light is showing the
shadow of its body through the wing. And the green
against the purple - lovely.
Beautiful Carol I do like V2...I have tried so hard to capture these...no success yet
Rain!!!!!! oh I hope we get some as well...we keep getting extreme high temps warnings..still not too much longer now...soon be spring like temps again.
Wonderful burst of colours and light in this. Two gorgeous images.
2 super shots.
Two extremely rich and vibrantly coloured images, depicting these rather beautiful creatures, The way the light as fizzled out as it penetrates the thin membrane which forms their wings is breathtaking, so very good.
A great image taken in very strong sunlight...
You done very well to control light..
V2 for me..
Beautiful captures Carol,
You couldn't ask for a better colour contrast!
The colours are lovely Carol.
Two beautiful brimstones Carol, both superbly captured, the colours are simply glorious
Both great shots Carol
but how do you tell the difference on male/female?
cannot see maybe longer antennae
I was wondering the same thing, Lillian. Maybe they were up to something before settling for a drink!!
Lovely backlit lighting throught the wings, Carol. v1 by an antenna!
Two super shots, Carol. Great backlight.
Lovely couple of shots there Carol. From my experiences of these in France they're not the easiest of subjects to get to stay still!
They are in fact Cleopatras not Brimstones though. The orange upper wings(which you can see thanks to the backlighting) indicate a Male Cleopatra. Brimstones don't have any Orange in either sex. Also to me seeing only Brimstones in the UK I can see the wing shape is not quite right for Brimstones. The pointy bits at the tips should be a bit pointier for a Brimstone. I checked the Collins Buterfly Guide which can't be 100% relied upon, but that shows that on Crete you don't get Brimstones, only Cleopatras though I know people say the distribution maps aren't great for some species so you might get the odd one. These two are definitely Cleopatras though.
Couple of cracking Cleopatras Carole !!
Dave has it in one!
Thanks Carol makes good reading
What fab detail, especially when you view them in the larger format.
Two excellent shots with the back lighting helping to show off the insects in such detail, Carol.
Love the backlighting on those lovely butterflies.
Also seeing bougainvillea is always a reminder of
Greece and Spain and holidays!
Two stunners Carol.
I just love the bold colours here
2 beauties as always....
Love the colour contrast between the butterflies and the Bougainvillaea.
Two beauties Carol.
Beautiful shots, Carol.
Carol, this is wonderful. Love the backlighting, Patti
Difficult to tell which is which.
They are both so very beautiful.
Two very beautiful captures Carol.
Both are marvelous! Love the light and details, Carol.
Both beautiful but V2 by a whisker,
Gorgeous! They stand out so well against the purple flowers, and the backlighting is just super
How the name was registered ? judging by he nose?. Oh I am gender biased . Lovely set, poor Anthony !!
Super pair of images. I like view1 for the light through the wings and view 2 for the clarity. Sylvia
Such lovely looking butterfly Carol. Very nicely captured.
You would be correct in your assumption about my dislike of sport. Now excuse me, off out on my bike . Moira
"Two Stunning & Exquisite Macro Shots,...with v1 being my Favorite 'by a Whisker'," Carol~
Have a Great Weekend,...'o'er the Pond!~~
Good to see 'em
Back on the G&T's ice and lime
Two beauties Carol lovely lighting, well done..Lin
harsh lighting but a fine capture
Think I like V2 the best Carol but Vi is still very beautiful.
Stunning image Carol, beautiful backlighting
The light is just devine, and the subjects .... well your signature all over! IB
[quote]Gorgeous! They stand out so well against the purple flowers, and the backlighting is just super
