On Saturday I was keen to head to the Dark Peak (ish) and capture some of the snow that had been lacking in the area recently. The initial plan was to head to Winnats Pass and capture a dramatic scene of the steep snow covered cliff edges with a huge drop to the road below and Mam Tor lighting up behind. Alas upon arriving at Winnats the road was closed and not fancying a steep trek up in the snow that early in the morning to miss the light I decided to head over to Bamford Edge and meet Chris C who said he'd be there.
It's a hard place for sunrise as the light takes forever to hit any foreground so my efforts were first focused on the telephoto end. This shot is of Mam Tor and Win Hill and while I'm not sure on the image I still like the concept I had at the time. I saw the fantastic cloud above Mam Tor and instantly I thought it mimicked Win Hill with it's shape. The only trouble was the cloud had a white band of light at the top but Win Hill didn't. I had to wait quite a while and the dabble of light on Win Hill was as good as it got.
