Many thanks for c/c's on my stamen close ups, thought i would have a break from them today...
Just wanted to practice some dog shots with Ronny using my macro lens and using manual focus, which is something i have never done with the dogs before as they move, alot....
The crop is as out of the camera, 90mm and small dining room doesnt allow much room but wanted to try the macro....
I would be interested in do people use manual or auto on animals and tips on how to get the nose as good as the eyes and vice versa.....
Handheld with an umbrella and softbox either side....
This is one of the images, i upped the clarity by about 15 points in raw, cleaned up some dandruff & a million hairs and added a border...

excellent dog portrait Helen... but with a model like Ronny... well... hey!
Al.
Oh my goodness. He is sooooooooooo handsome! What a fabby shot.
My feelings are that the border is too tight around Ronnie, I would like to see a bit more space. But this is a very personal thing, and I am sure many will feel just the opposite.
A really cracking image, makes me feel like I just want to give Ronnie a big hug! ![]()

Super shot Helen with great detail and focal depth which is best viewed large.
Top shot!

Ronny will surely proud of his portrait Helen. Well done
Dennis
He is a tad tight, i could have added a black border around him to give the illusion of space, as with my 90mm, and my small dining room, this was me against the wall just about getting him into frame, i normally use my smaller lens for the dogs but wanted to try the macro on him......
Sorry cant help on the technical stuff
But do know it is a cracker og a picture
Also well presented
a superb shot of your handsome dog. It is exposed good in my eyes hard with black n white animals and a black backdrop
I tend to use manual when I take images of the cats, and to get the eyes and nose sharp (always focus on the eye lids, where possible) try to use nothing less than f8 probably f/13 depending on how close you are- the close up of Ted under the red towel was f/13 250 shutter speed and a light. Not that I am an expert but thats what I use if I can
Hope that helps. Sorry waffling here
Sue

Helen this is a super portrait and I hope you print this off and have it large on your wall. Really well worked and makes you feel good when you put your camera, lens and grey matter to work all at once. Thanks for your comments & encouragment.Sylv.
