This was taken in a local market on the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico. It's very typical of the colourful market stalls there and I like it for that colour but also because I keep finding something of interest in it. However, I'm no judge so I wanted to see what people thought of it, how it could be improved etc
Techie stuff - 35mm, 1/320sec @f9, ISO 200
Thanks for looking and all comments, good or bad, welcome

I agree that there are a lot of things of interest in the image, Gareth. Not only have you captured the strong colours, but also interaction between the children, and the man in the background cooking something (?). I am intrigued with the display of beautifully balanced and arranged fruit that is in colourful pots, am wondering what the girls are doing with their hands, and cringing at the coarse looking material of their skirts, which is akin to the sacks used to carry the fruit. I don't see a lot wrong with the picture, but feel that there is a certain amount of dead space either side, particularly on the right, so have tried a crop that concentrates on the people and what they are doing. I also lifted the shadows to get some more detail into the background where the man is cooking, tweaked the contrast a little, and removed a few bits from behind the man's head. All very minor. Your subjects are all central in the frame, and my crop places them to the side.
Pamela.
Pamela,
many thanks for taking the time to comment and to create a modification (which I like). It's interesting because I'd already lifted the shadows to a large extent but stopped because I was afraid of going too far. Your mod shows that I should have gone further still
Also, I thought about cropping to the right but didn't think that a square image would have worked - I was wrong ![]()
Incidentally, the skirt on the right, although it does look very coarse, is actually very soft and is part of the national dress of the region. Imagine brushing against a long-haired cashmere goat - that's what it feels like. Not that I make a habit of brushing against goats of course ! ![]()
Thanks again

you can get closer to people and this will add dynamics to the photo.
If you like taking pictures from the distance you should learn a little bit about composition, this is a gerat photo but it could have been composed a little bit different to make it more interesting.

Paul,
thanks for that. I agree but unfortunately it was a grab shot between crowds of people as a gap opened so the initial composition was forced or at least dictated by my slow reactions ! It could be cropped as Pamela suggests above and that definitely improves the shot as you suggest.
Thanks for the suggestions again - it's very much appreciated
Cheers

Gaz lovely shot amazing colour too , If anything i would give the image a slight crop, Whilst there is a lot of colour going on in the foreground i think we need less of it in the background though, The reason is because there is something of interest going on in the background with the guy cooking something to hold your interest. The girls and the colour in the foreground give strong interest too the orange bowl on the left of the girl the orange crate on the right and the orange on the floor to the right all adds to the image for me and the smoke in the background adds extra atmosphere to the image see my crop. great shot cheers Kev
