...take away the colour and the mood and tones are left, and of course the weather, I think it suits this image right down to the ground.

Suits the image right up to the sky, too......
I remain convinced that monochrome takes us to the heart of the matter more quickly than colour.

Interesting comparison. I've been back and looked at Summer weather alongside this, I do prefer the harmony of mono but the steely blue/grey cloud reflections in colour are so beautiful. I wonder how a tiny hint of blue toning would work in this?

I like the effect created here by the b&w convertion, Dougie. The water appears almost to be two separate lakes divided by the change of light in the middle. The (apparent) lack of any added filter effect makes for a very natural look, which is definately a plus.
