Another webcam shot through an ETX90 telescope, taken from Tenerife. This is a mosaic of about 40 webcam images to cover the whole area of the moon, using a Philips Toucam Pro webcam to capture the raw images as a video sequence. Frames from the video were then stitched together to make the image.
When I put this together, I joined along the image boundaries but I think I should have feathered the edges, if you look closely you can see some of the joins.
If you have the time, the large version looks best.
Anyway, hope you like it!

A stunning mosaic! What program are you using for stitching/stacking for this one?
Should at least have gotten an HC from Pete.

Thanks for the recent comment on my Towards the Galactic Center. I bought the barn door from an astronomy club member for $5, it and my trusty Pentax K1000 are still my primary astro-photo platform. I also got this photo published in the Reflector a couple years ago.
The original mosaic was about 2500 pixels square, to stitch the images I just pasted them into a photoshop image and lined them up one at a time. Because of the very flat field across the small area of the CCD, they were quite easy to line up, though some joins are evident. If I did it again I'd probably use some stitching software to get a cleaner join.
I too used to have a homemade barn door mount but foolishly threw it away when I moved house, a decision I regret! I must try making another sometime. But I still have my trusty K1000, though hooked on digital at the moment ![]()

Thanks for all the comments and clicks - regarding the colour, it's unchanged from how the webcam recorded it. They say the rocks on the moon are very dark and it's only the contrast with the night sky which makes it look bright, but whether this is a true rendition of the colour I'm not sure!
