i know the colour aint very good its because i had to lighten the photo up because it was to dark to be published because its been published and i lost the original photo because my laptop broke
thats why most of my other photos (colourwise) are better and this one is really light

Basically a nice image, but lighting is actually very flat indeed. You need an increase in contrast to give a bit of impact. I would crop a little from the left to place the figures nearer that side.

Hi Katie, welcome to EPZ! Smile

This is a gorgeous initial upload, I love the way you've caught the mum and child!

I've taken it into Photoshop Elements 9 and made few small tweaks (I hope you think I've improved it!)

I took it into 'Enhance' > Adjust Lighting > Levels.
Then I adjusted the midtones and highlights.
I straightened the horizon slightly and gave it a little crop to bring the mother and child off center.
Because I adjusted the lighting the sky was a little noisy, so I took it into 'Filter' > Despeckle & Reduce Noise
There was a very slight blue cast, so I've removed that.
A resize and quick sharpen, and here it is! Smile

Edit: Mmmm. I may have cropped a little too much, a little pixelated in places.
It was a gorgeous image to play with, thank you! Grin

Welcome to EPZ.
A wonderful idea for mother and baby image.
To do a good crit the team need to have details of your settings on camera.
Usually your subject looks better place on thirds. When we are learning we often think
the subject should be central but if you look at images on EPZ, you'll see that isn't necessarily the best position.
I've done a mod also and cropped the image which may be pixelated but it's mainly to demonstrate
the position of subject. i straightened it a few degees too.
I've tweaked levels, contrast and saturation and sharpened it also.
I know this sounds an awful lot of changes and you can't learn everything at once.
Just keep taking photos, think about composition and gradually learn all about processing.
Nominate as constuctive if you consider advice is useful and the EPZ team will look it over and add their own comments.

I've tried a mod. Kate's mod is best in terms of colour - better than mine.

It is not a bad upload but the lighting does need a little trteatment. I think kate's demonstrates the solution so i won't upload a mod myself.

In order for us to help you better have a look on the upload page to include your EXIF data, this is important.

Welcome and enjoy the site.

Welcome to EPZ, and a nice photo to start with.

Ive looked at your other colour uploads, and all except one have a similar look and feel, so I am guessing this is an effect you are deliberately intending to use?

Whats being referred to as flat usually means low contrast, which happens when whats supposed to be black, which is digital terms mean Red = 0, Green = 0, and Blue = 0, so an absence of any colour. In this image, the black measures Red = 99, Green = 55, and Blue = 97, so black is not black, and the image will also have a colour cast. Again, this may be dome deliberately in post processing, or using a camera preset, but you should let us know that when you upload if thats the case.

You may also need some assistance with re sizing, ans there are visible blocks of pixels, so let us know which software you use for editing, and we can advise.

I have also uploaded a mod where I have made black = black, and white = white, and cropped to a 10 X 8 aspect ratio.

Hi Katie, welcome to EPZ!

Picasia 3 (by Google) is a very good free program to use. As others have said the color is flat on this image,

Good potential though,

Luke
