This is my first proper photo shoot. The first time was just casual, one window light. This time, after learning from my course, that you can get effective results with a two-head flash kit, which I used. I brought an Interfit EX150 kit. I used a soft box to the right and a white brolly to the left (no flash). I had the white background also covering the window.

I found it extremely difficult to direct poses, so any advice is greatly appreciated, as ell the general comments and improvents!

I was trying to achive the fresh hi-key look.

1/160 @ f/2.5 ISO 400 (big mistake!)

PS: blemishes, etc cloned and healed. Levels adjusted to enhance colour and soften the red look. I wasn't sure what WB to use! *EDIT* I forgot to mention that despite the red look, she did have blusher on and I wanted to perserve some of that!*

B&W version tomorrow!

Thank You.

Interseting angle of shot, a pretty model yet somehow its not her face that I'm drawn to!

Nothing wrong with the lightoing on the face. The pose seems a little strained (or is that the blouse). I think I would have used a smaller aperture and had her all in focus.

Thanks for letting me know the lighting on the face is ok, as I'm not always good with lighting, etc! The pose was, at the time didn't seem straigned, but her bluse is very tight!

I will try using smaller apertures next time, as in this shoot, I was trying to focus on the face and eyes.

Thank you for your advice,
Taya

Hi Taya congrats on getting some lights, I`d been looking around for a fabric shop to make my own backgrounds. Found one, got the material but seem to have lost the foot pedal for the sewing machine now lol.

This is a lovely first pic, captured the eyes well. Skin tones look fine to me, not to red.

On white balance I just use daylight or auto setting.

As for poses I often get the same problems. I just try to keep the sitter relaxed. Often coming up with there own poses once relaxed and confident.

Looking forward to seeing more, keep them coming Taya.

Paul

Taya, I am glad you liked the mod.
I selected the skin, feathered it, copied it onto a new layer and used a 'soft focus' action I got from a magazine - but you can do the same thing with gaussian blur. once you have the (slight) softenig you want run the erasor tool over the eyes and mouth to make sure they stay sharp........easy

Tell me about it, johnwillwoofit (erm, nice name you got there!), I guess Denian wish they weren't so hidden!!! Wink Thanks for the comment.

Paul: Thank you so much for your comments. The skin tones were a lil red at the pre-production stage, not too bad now, just a lil warm, as I wanted a consistent hi-key look. I'm glad you like the eye capture as this is what I was trying to achieve. Eyes are a beautiful and special feature of the face, we read them better than anything else! Fabrics can be really expensive if brought from camera webshops, yet I was in a hurry, so I just paid for it! At the moment, I have Black and white fabrics only. I will look for a dark scarlet red colour that looks mysterious, yet, romantic. That shall be fun to work with (Want to create a romantic gothic look)! I'd also like to get black and white colorama paper because it creates shadows, which can be very artistic. But, one step at a time!

LMFAO, you lost your foot petal, lol how'd you do that. Lol check your daughter's bike, it really wouldn't suprise me! Once again, thank you.

Kaybee, you are welcome and thank you for sharing method of work. I'm going to try this tonight, I might post it tomrrow as I'm not sure what time I'll finish!

Thank you again!

Thank You, I really appreciate it! I tend to jump around when it comes to style, I like the bright hi-key shots or the dark, moody, gritty shots!

Taya, this shot is great. I love the angle. Very pretty model (which helps) and I think you've really captured a nice personality in her face. The lighting seems fine to me (I'm new!) and unlike some of the fellas, it's definitely her face I'm looking at!
