After my last attempt at photographing Mrs Lawbert in the Portrait style I thought I would have another attempt taking into account the excellent help and feedback I got from Epz members.

The background still isnt brilliant and I will probably buy a backdrop in the future to help out with the light spill.

I used a 580ex and a 430ex both off camera for the lighting set at 1/16 and 1/8th power respectively.

V1 is colour
V2 is Black and White

Many Thanks for all the comments and votes on my previous upload.

Nice portrait of your lovely wife,Paul. It looks as if you may have done some work on her face. This (IMHO)is fine, but I would consider treating the chest area similarly in order to reduce the contrast betweenthe two .Also,if you are considering buying yourself a backdrop why not look at some of the fabric stalls at your nearest market.I`ve done it on a number of occasions and the results have been fine .I just clip it to the top of my curtains using three or four bulldog clips .Hope this helps.

I think I will go for V2 Paul as I find that mono brings out more detail in the skin and has a nice tone which suits the image, good work

Hello Mike

Many Thanks for your considered critique, I havent done any photoshop work at all on Mrs Lawbert....She does that in front of the mirror with Virgin Vie one step face base!!....Your point on the chest area is very valid and to be honest the flash might be a little harsh in that area....Maybe a trowel or 2 more of One step face base might do the trick!!
An excellent idea about the fabric from local markets and hanging it with bulldog clips...Thank you for that.
All the Best
Paul

A very good portrait and some excellent critique from Mike - IMHO I would have removed the shadow on the neck as the eye seems to be drawn to it - Still you have done a very lovely wife proud with this portrait
