I occasionally get 'critiqued' for having a preference for darker than the norm images - well you cannot get much darker than these either in subject matter or exposure (V2) as i felt that the subject deserved to be brooding.

The premise of this memorial in Berlin, is that the random heights of the blocks mean that anyone attempting to walk across them finds it arduous (even when not covered in snow) and as such it is intended to give an idea of what it was to like to be a Jew during the time of persecution.

In V1 you can see (albeit the rear end) of Berlin's most visited of landmark's the 'Brandenburg Tor'

I like dark...
V1 & V2 both work for me (V3 is useful for information). My preference by a long way is for V1, because it balances reminders of the past with modern life, with the memorial as an army of dark ghosts hovering on the city's conscience.
Photographing any artwork is tricky, the photographer needs to convey the truth of the original in a way that works within a flat rectangle. This achieves that.
