The title's from a Steve Knightley song - the next line is "and I want it back!" our flag has been hijacked by the intolerant, the violent, and the inane.
It should stand for an imperfect democracy, tolerant and defending the weak. A nation made up of immigrants, as we have been for centuries, welcoming both refugees and economic migrants. Exporting democracy, learning and other social good things.
We have some awful history behind us: we should have learned from it... But the last few years, we seem to have forgotten that we claim to be the mother of democracies.
I'd like to have our flag back, for the sake of freedom for all. Here, and everywhere else.
For the record, the flag's on the bow of HMS Belfast, a World War II cruiser: now a floating museum on the River Thames.

John
The contrast of the flag against the buildings really gives this image the edge.
Reading through your photo information though, I don't think it really pushes your concepts around the concept of "our flag". It's a bit more architecture than people - if you see what I mean.
However, I think you have hit on a theme for a whole photo series - Our Flag.
Cheers
Rob
Rob -
I took the image because it looked good. The title was an afterthought, and as I wanted to dissociate myself from the extremists who reckon it's their flag (and stands for intolerance and global as well as local bulling), I added what my son would call a rant...
I want to be able to be proud of my national flag, and not worried that people might associate me with extremists. I can live with the guilt of empire, but not the evil of racial intolerance.
The Steve Knightley song's worth hearing, though!
John
Like the image, however, I feel I should point out this is the Union Flag, and the flag that is associated with racial intolerance, BNP etc is the Cross of St George. Now I totally agree with you I WANT OUR FLAG BACK for England!
