Gathering nesting material, the nuthatch builds his nest in the hole of a tree and if the hole is too large (maybe he has overtaken an old woodpeckers nest) will gather mud and make the hole the size suited to him and his family an interesting fact of which I was unaware. Many thanks for all c/c's on yesterdays dunnock I am grateful for your time.

Collecting mud for the nest entrance Ann. I saw a nest site a couple of years ago in an old apple tree and the mud was about 6 in dia over the hole in the tree.It left a little entrance on the side.
