It's a nice effect. A monopod may be the way to go until you get used to the weight. I want to upgrade myself and weight is a big issue for we girls with small hands!

Green Woodpecker Dawn, they love ants! You will get use to the lens, as suggested a monopod. Ron.

Lucky you, geting a woodpecker. A lovely shot. Monopods are great - I do have one, they are much easier to use, but must admit don't use it much!

Nice shot I have a monopod and find it a bit odd to use, I would say take a light tripod, and you have the best of both worlds open a tripod closed a mono pod!
Cheers Ian.

Definitely a Green Woodpecker - we've got some at work and they love to be on the grass the problem is that you then just get the eye, top of its head and beak and boy have I tried to get more than that. I still use my monopod especially if I walk a lot - just keep the camera steady also when I wait for the subject to turn or do something. Ina
