One of the Shetland ponies, who share the forest and heathland with their larger cousins, plus donkeys and pigs, but that's another story
Many thanks to Ron (Maiwand) & Ann (pluckyfilly). for their User awards given to yesterday's Stag
I must admit, I was rather pleased with it myself
Off to try and catch up with things, as yesterday was taken up with togging and Under 18's football
Very nice image
Brilliant capture, lovely lighting,
He is so like my little Fred. Lovely shot Adrian. I wonder what happened to his tail. Cathy
The sun has brought out the rich colour of the coat.............
Such a beauty Adrian - the colours are so intense.
Lovely New Forest pony. Odd tail. Peter.
I am not a horse person at all but his one is such a great photo and you have shown him in a light that is almost ginger tomcat colour
so you have well deserved my UA
Cracking shot Ade.
The Shetland ponies are such darlings, especially the young ones.
Another New Forest image that is beautifully taken, love the curve of the neck and mane, and the detail and colour in the winter coat.
In answer to Holmewood's question, to comply with the Verderers' Bye-Laws, the owners make payments to the Agisters, receipt of which is recognised by tail marking (cutting) for their ponies.
"No pony may be depastured (put out to graze) on the Forest unless it is branded with its owner’s mark. A fee must be paid every year for each animal, collected by the Agisters for the Court of Verderer's to use to defray the cost of supervising and controlling the animals. At present the marking fee is £20 and the Agisters mark the pony’s tail by cutting the long hair in his individual pattern as proof of payment".
A splendid shot of this chubby little chap, I like the rich chestnut colour of his coat which is enhanced by the sunlight. An interesting tale of the tail from Pamela
Thanks for sharing that most useful piece of info Pamela
That is so interesting. Cathy
Lovely shot, and what a beautiful pony
All round winner for me
This one so cute Adrian, some great info also.
A beautiful little pony so well captured.
(A real shame about cutting the tail like that.)
What a beautiful and sturdy wee pony, Ade: lovely rich colouring in it's coat and good detail captured in this frame filling shot.
Fascinating information by PamelaJean re the tail.
I thought he's been to a bad hairdresser!
Beautiful pony Adrian - their short rounded shape is so loavable.
A very rotund sheltie, Adrian, he has his winter coat ready for the cold months ahead . Bright and breezy yesterday, reaching 23C, same forecast for today. Carol
These ponies have character, just look at that eye!
Well captured Adrian.
Great capture Adrian. This is just about the perfect picture book image of the Shetland. Reminds me of those superb 'Thirlwell' cartoons so beloved of the horse mad young girls ( my eldest daughter many years ago !!).
A little beauty this one matey! Its no wonder you were so smitten with them. A cracking image. Lou
Great vcolours and detail here Adrian.
A beautiful capture
