One of the Shetland ponies, who share the forest and heathland with their larger cousins, plus donkeys and pigs, but that's another storyWink

Many thanks to Ron (Maiwand) & Ann (pluckyfilly). for their User awards given to yesterday's StagSmile
I must admit, I was rather pleased with it myselfGrin

Right!
Off to try and catch up with things, as yesterday was taken up with togging and Under 18's football

The Shetland ponies are such darlings, especially the young ones.
Another New Forest image that is beautifully taken, love the curve of the neck and mane, and the detail and colour in the winter coat.

In answer to Holmewood's question, to comply with the Verderers' Bye-Laws, the owners make payments to the Agisters, receipt of which is recognised by tail marking (cutting) for their ponies.
"No pony may be depastured (put out to graze) on the Forest unless it is branded with its ownerís mark. A fee must be paid every year for each animal, collected by the Agisters for the Court of Verderer's to use to defray the cost of supervising and controlling the animals. At present the marking fee is £20 and the Agisters mark the ponyís tail by cutting the long hair in his individual pattern as proof of payment".

A splendid shot of this chubby little chap, I like the rich chestnut colour of his coat which is enhanced by the sunlight. An interesting tale of the tail from Pamela

Great capture Adrian. This is just about the perfect picture book image of the Shetland. Reminds me of those superb 'Thirlwell' cartoons so beloved of the horse mad young girls ( my eldest daughter many years ago !!).GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin
