Typhoon

The squadrons at RAF Leuchars are now operational with the Typhoon, as ably, and very noisily, demonstrated at the station Open Day on 10 Sept. Despite poor visibility, a very low cloud base and one session of heavy rain most of the display went ahead (one stand did a roaring trade in umbrellas!). The Typhoon is seriously impressive with full afterburner take-off and a vertical climb to many thousand feet (weather cleared at end of day) - sad to realise this will be the last RAF hosted event on the base as it closes in the near future.

Nice picture of the aircraft that describes the 'past, present and future. It must have dried out the run way after it taking off but not us sadly.

Great shot Pat. This really shows off the aircraft off well. Shame about Leuchars. I remember watching a couple of Lightnings taking off with a hell of a roar way back in 1968 as I cycled in towards St Andrews - I was 16 and it was a great thrill.
