One of Sorrento’s most beautiful spaces, the medieval cloisters (chiostro) of the church of St Francis (chiesa di San Francesco). A harmonious and atmospheric marriage of architectural styles – two sides are lined with 14th-century crossed arches, the other two with round arches, all supported by octagonal pillars. They are often used to host exhibitions and summer concerts. Its evocative architecture, secluded tranquility and seasonal flowers create a unique and peaceful environment for contemplation and quiet, far from the hubbub of the town.

Many thanks for all the C&Cs on 'The Lonely Walk' and all the good holiday wishes (which worked as we had a lovely time and good weather too!).

Best wishes,
Philip

It is a beautiful place, we saw a wedding ceremony taking place in the middle here a couple of years ago. Excellent detail and i like the view through. Lovely work, Philip.

Snap! It seems we both love Sorrento. Didn't see yours before I put mine on here. Still, yours is better. Much better lighting.

You have a great collection of architecture, and I love this one!
How did you get the lightness and detail on the pillars without using flash and with such strong sunlight the other side?
Great work!

Hi Hannah,

Thank you for your kind comments and welcome to EPZ.

Luck played a large part in capturing this image. Most of my shots were burnt out, but I think the shade of the tree and cloister combined with the aspect helped greatly with this one.
