Yesterday I read on the forums HERE if it was possible to turn a really awful duff photo into something using textured backgrounds.
This is my attempt.
This is my friend Nick...looking in my bathroom mirror...I left the lights down the side in to show the catchlights. used three different textured backgrounds and my usual method of processing portraits. (Dragan Style...sort of)
The Tatts are all his....he's covered in them.

Thought it was a movie still when I first saw it Cath....
Excellent processing, certainly adds much much more to the shot.
Would have been nicer though if the reflection of his head was positioned in the gap between his shoulder, ear and the lights. At the moment it is a bit of a tight squeeze, only a minor crit of a superb shot.

Stewart
The textures do work wonders. Really like what you have done.
Well done Cathy, lots of work gone into this, yep the original is a bit on the iffy side but it's not just the addition of textures that has transformed this image, you have put loads of effort into other parts of the resulting frame too.
Yep a bit dark at the bottom but it does balance it a bit....I do like the lights.
i took a picture like version 2 of my son looking into the bathroom mirror. He had the picture tattooed on his back. Great work here - v1 is really effective. =)
I think Coles has a point though Im not sure what could be done. A fantastic use of textures and a clever crop are just the beginning of this brilliant transformation. I really like the processing of the portrait itself and the way you really have lit up his face and eyes compared to the original.
A super bit of manipulation that has everything for me so have a badge on me ![]()
Nice work.
Ian
I have just followed your link to this in the forums and must say this is quite superb. I have started dabbling with textures so it's great to see a before and after shot. Thanks for sharing with us.
Perhaps you could go one better and upload a tutorial showing us how you created it?
Inspiring work!
Phil
