Large Yellow Underwing Moth.
Taken about 11.30pm on a hot evening last week.Saw it fly into the bushes down the garden and could just make him out from the patio light.
Set up tripod and camera - went for a side view because it is a dull coloured moth. I liked the fact it seemed to be watching me.
Kept reducing the flash level until it was lighting him but not too much of the BG.

Fill in flash (reduced)

Thanks for looking in.

Well worth the effort, wonderful detailed shot, and it stands out beautifully from the bg.
I do moths the lazy way, use a moth trap and then shoot them in the morning, using natural light and a light tent.....Well I like me bed too much, what can I say..LOL
Looks like I'm back commenting for the time being at least and apart from using flash on this I can't fault it. Why flash I hear you say. Because no matter what you do with it, it just never looks natural! Just a personal opinion of course....Hence the way I shoot them as I do!

Maureen. The neighbours were out in their garden too, it was so hot indoors, our bungalows are like blxxdy storage heaters.
The moth just happened along so I thought why not get a shot.
I am glad you liked 'another' so much I am very flattered.
Thankyou.
Brian.
