I have uploaded this shot today, to get some feedback on the effect. I followed a photoshop tutorial for creating 'extreme contrast', which also lowers the saturation.
This is the tutorial I used.
I have not included the addition of noise and sharpening, as I preferred it without, but this part of the process certainly would work on other images.
