Another self portrait, this time I have processed it using the action I developed for ageing some of my Duxford shots. Perhaps not a flattering result, but I thought it gave an interesting effect. I then used a blue/green channel mixer mono layer to desaturate the image.

My title placement is perhaps a little odd, but I liked it there for some reason.

I will upload the full mono version without title using the before and after feature.

Shot with 1 small soft box front left and a 80cm reflector to the right.

Thanks for looking

Neil

Extremely good portrait (self or otherwise). It exudes honesty. I very much like the placement of the title; it gives it edge. Top work.

Thats one sharp shot - think mono will suit it. I personally think it stands on its own and does not need the title.

both mono and colour are very strong. Have a bit of a preference for the colour version because of the eye colour. And really like how you partly desaturated the photo.

A brave SP Neil, and for me the colour version is the better of the two. Text position is unusual, but I quite like it there. For me, this becomes a much stronger image if you crop off the top of your head so that the title is pretty much top right of the shot.

even though it is a great portrait, but still I prefer the previous two, as they are more imaginative.

Thanks for your comments. Not an easy picture to see sat in my PF, but I tired to be objective about it and it is one of my sharpest shots.

I tried a few different crops Dave, but I get uncomfortable when I stray too far from a 2:3 ratio.

A fair point Cole. I tried to be a bit more creative with the processing on this one to compensate, but it still a face in front of a camera.

Thanks again

Neil

Prefer the colour Wink
Excellent detail and colour Neil. My LBA is already bad enough without seeing a 31mm Ltd shot Tongue LOL!

Smile It is a beautiful lens Matt, the 77 is a tad sharper perhaps, but the 31 is the most used of my limiteds.

They were a total indulgence, but it gives me a warm feeling when I open my camera bag, sad I know.

Like the processing you have used , the large version really shows up the detail in the skin and eyes....prefer the colour version.

yep the colour one does it for me too. This is an excellent SP Neil, so many people say it's brave to do a self portrait but surely that's the best way of learning about lighting set ups without having pressure. I like the mood and you look quite menacing - in a nice way LOL and the eyes are pin-sharp. Excellent work

Thanks Cathy, Tony.

It is a good point Tony, there is also no one to get upset at the end (other than yourself) when the pictures show every single blemish, wrinkle etc.

Saves time in Photoshop Wink

Very strong s.p. and the processing has worked a treat. The title works fine for me.

Although it's manipulated, it comes across as a brutally honest self portrait. Could work well with a straight-on view, to make it more in your face.

I personally like the mono version - it appears to make me focus on your eyes much more.

The title gives it a very contemporary, magazine-style effect.

I would expect this image to accompany your auto-biography or an article on some deep psychological issue. It's very honest, as the others have said.
