This image has been sitting in my p/f for a little while now, and encouraged by the comments it received before upload to the gallery, combined with the much appreciated C&Cs on my 'Call of Duty' upload and Dave's (WhiteRose1) much valued UA, I thought I would upload this one too of a nun in quiet contemplation.
It was taken in a small chapel adjacent to the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli (Saint Mary of the Angels), a church situated in the plain at the foot of the hill of Assisi, Italy. The basilica was constructed between 1569 and 1679. Inside is another earlier church, the Porziuncola, the nucleus of the first Franciscan monastery and the most sacred place for the Franciscans. It was here that the young Francis of Assisi understood his vocation and renounced the world in order to live in poverty among the poor and thus started the Franciscan movement.
Thanks for looking.
