Another from my recent trip to Dungeness with Trev/twordley and Ian.
Again out of my comfort zone and trying mono! Thanks for your time, your thoughts/comments are always very welcome.
Regards - Sarah J x

Out of your comfort zone, I don't think so Sarah. A very strong composition and the mono conversion is excellent.
I'm just sat at Euston Station waiting for the train home and saw an advert for Leeds Castle on the tube, don't suppose the picture could have been one of yours???
Darren.
Wonderful sense of desolation. I think maybe you've found a new comfort zone?

Just the right lens for this type of conversion, it adds great lines to the smashing set of tones and textures... Dave
This had to be mono Sarah, a little too much going on in the foreground for colour I guess. Works a treat in good old black and white though.

Sorry to be out of sync with everyone else Sarah, but Im not convinced!
The big issue for me is that large shadow on the RHS. I suspect it's a nearby boat, but it draws the eye. I wonder, that instead of using both rails that perhaps you could have just used the LH rail thus avoiding the majority of the shadow.
The rest of the comp is excellent and you've processed it well. I think that there is still more contrast in there that you could have brought out, but it's still very eye catching.
Sorry to be the negative one!!
Dave

Thanks everyone for your time and comments ![]()
Dave no problem - your honest opinion is really appreciated! I quite liked the darker shadowed area, thought it balanced the image slightly but am happy to be corrected. I think I may actually have some more with just the left hand rail will check that out - more contrast... hmm think I agree

Given the contrasty lighting and the lack of detail in the sky - the mono conversion was probbly a good choice.
The rails give a good lead in (and I don't mind the shadow in the foreground in the mono image).
The boat is well placed, and looks nice and moody. However the sky is showing a little banding on my screen - is the orignal file OK?
omg how did i miss this .. great work and congrats on the HC
Dave
Hi Sarah
Just wanted to add my congratulations on the HC. Well deserved both for the extra atmosphere mono gives and stepping outside your comfort zone. I often find taking a risk on a photo shoot gives interesting results and opens up possibilities.
This capture is what prompted me to convert one of my Stade pics to mono and experiment with the processing.
Would be great to meet up at Hastings or other interesting venue as suggested. Meant to mention I've got comp tickets for many of the heritage attractions in Kent - will discuss when we next speak.
Have a good weekend

Looks a cracking bit of mono work to me, Sarah - I'd be more than happy with this. Excellent viewpoint and the rails make a great lead in towards the boat.

Really good mono,
nice tones and good composition.
Very well taken.
