This character sits on top of a brick column at the wonderful Whickham Hermitage Community Garden project. It's draughty up there, and he's been stuck there for a long time now.
This is for Anne (atworner), I think he's related to her recent upload.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Somehow I can't imagine this working in colour. Because of the weather most of us can identify with this. Great title.

Thank you everyone, and a Very Happy Sunday to you. This was taken on one of the handful of occasions when we have got out this year - and within minutes of my taking it the heavens opened. I have got a couple more of him to come some time.
Albert is right, colour didn't work here. All the colour is in the background, the blue of the sky, and it just doesn't balance.
As some of you have noticed, I have new responsibilities here. I'm trying hard to balance my time, the Main Gallery is where my heart lies, it's where I've learned so much. But some days I will have less time here than others.
Cheers,
Moira

At least you looked at the portfolio Dave, but that's possibly not a good thing. Your comment does remind me of occasional aggressive comments from birders stumbling out of their hides and into street photography.
There's a lot of work on the site that bores me to tears. Pin-sharp static birds that could so easily be a taxidermist's work; rigid rule-of-third landscapes – if you view a few in succession they become so predictable; HDR that probes into hidden corners where I want the mystery of shadows; more and more b***** meerkats; red-nylon-knickers Glamour; much though not all digital art, which seems formulaic, shallow, 'Look how clever I am'. 'Contrived' does seem a strange condemnation for a digital artist to use...
With genres where I am out of sympathy I accept that I am missing something, that I cannot criticise the passions of others. Reality, the man-made world, is an amazing place that I find endlessly fascinating. I see so much richness in it that I rarely need fiction. But I accept that not everyone views the world like that.
We both explore what we do. Isn't that the main thing?

Lensbaby! Whoohoo Smile Absolutely not enough images showing this lens in action, and way too little recognition for the ability of the lens to set a sweet-spot of focus that cannot be emulated by all the software in the world. Why do people use software to try to copy the effects of this lens anyway - and boy, am I on my soapbox BlushBlush I too wanted to use the new emoticons.

This gargoyle is much grumpier than the one in my garden.

Well said Moira.

I agree, as I am sure many do, with your feelings about some of the photos on this site, and I am sure that there are many out there who feel that way about my images/portfolio.

But we are all entitled to enjoy our photography in whatever form it takes and to whatever technical and/or artistic standards it does or doesn't achieve.

Negative, generalised and narrow-minded criticism is not only the easy option but does not help anyone or achieve anything positive. Tolerance and at least an attempt at understanding others is the key to making this world (such as it is) a hopefully better place.
