The Grey Heron (ardea cinerea)
Caught this Heron a few days back on one of the warmer days that we had;so warm in fact that the bird appeared to be panting as if to cool down. It was then that I noticed the very long tongue that he has. Never seen it so obvious before.Herons, one of our largest native birds, have always attracted me and I hope you will like this one.
As always, many appreciative and grateful thanks for the c/c's on the Dabchick and particular thanks to Jennn (Taggart) for the UA.

Takes the biscuit Ron. The Guest Editor really saying what they like about this fine capture.
They failed to say great timing, exposure and detail and dof spot on.
So thought i'd say it as it makes sense to comment on the photo rather than something completely different.
Great morning, next time we'll get that dam Kingfisher hopefully
Richard
Superb detail and pose captured Ron, love the tongue.....not seen that before ![]()
Geoff.
A terrific shot of the heron Ron, the detail in the plumage is sublime and it is most unusual to see him/her with tongue hanging out.
I do think that you have one of the very best "wildlife" portfolios on here..your "love in the mist" permanantly stays in the mind.
Gareth
How could I miss this charming, beautiful shot!
Well taken and I like the title.
