The idea is good but would have liked to see the whole cow and his eye in more detail , Good effort

interesting animals these, look ferocious but are quite placid, we have quite a few in the peak dist.
i like the way you have portrayed the wintering out element and you have him pointing in the best direction reading left to right, but i wish you had included the back side of the beast. it should have been easy enough as i have had 12mm lenses pressed right up to their noses in the past.
the other thing is the large area of white has fooled the meter into underexposure, pushing it into a dull grey, this could do with a slight lift in levels. doing so would also brighten the coat of beast and in turn may even show eye detail which is desirable in this kind of shot.
regards,
Phil

I agree with Phil that the camera has been fooled by the large expanse of white and the animal is on the underexposed side. I have uploaded a mod where I have lightened the animal using a curves adjustment.

I agree also about including all the animal. Maybe a shot a bit more from the front rather than side on would have been better. You might have got a bit more engagement with its face although I think its eyes are likely to be hidden under all that fur.

Like the grass poking up through the snow but bent by the wind which gives us a feel for the extreme conditions.

Best wishes

Catherine

Hello, Mick. I agree with what has already been said.
Your image is 448x336 pixels, a little small, especially for those trying to critique or do modifications. You are allowed up to 600 pixels on the longest side.
There is a lot of blue in the snow area, the top is not straight, and the cow is ill-defined. In my modification, I cropped the top and right and then resized to 600 pixels. With colour-balance, I removed the blue from the snow, then lightened the image, lifted the shadows to get definition on the cow, and reduced highlights. I took the saturation up a tad, added a little contrast and sharpened. The quality of the mod is not good, due to the resize, but you can do the rest on your original.
Pamela.
