On reflection I'm wondering if I should have gone for a completely different approach, as this composition now feels a bit left heavy. Oh well I arrived very late and it was all over in a matter of moments so once I'd committed to the shot I had to go with it or I'd have gone away with nothing...

On a completely different note can anybody recommend a good wedding photographer that charges sensible prices in (or that will travel to) the Teesside area for a small intimate wedding on 17th October? We don't want hundreds of photos just some nice shots of my fiancé getting ready at the hotel with her parents and bridesmaid then a few really good shots of us and our guests.

Cheers
Den

Fantastic pier sunset scene. Wonderful image!
Personally i do find the thin white border just a little too detracting though.

I really like this photo my only thing is its such a shame the sand had dried out at the bottom right of the pic it would have worked so much better if it was still wet and maybe moved slightly to get more of the sun in the shot too but still really nice Smile

Fantastic depth and colour Den. I quite like the contrasting wet and dry sand, although I can see the benefits that would have been gained from it being wet.
Maybe it's just one to re-visit if your uncomfortably with it, where does the sun rise at the moment?

Congrats on the engagement/wedding plans Smile

Thanks for the comments so far guys really appreciated. Know exactly what you mean about the dry sand but if I went further down the beach I couldn't get the sun in the frame and if I moved further to the right where it was also wet I couldn't get an angle that worked Sad Definitely one to revisit, probably when the tide is still a touch higher...

Eli, I was looking at the sun compass last night wondering that very thing and the sun should rise just out of the frame to the right. If you know the beach it looks like it will be over the sea just left of Hunt Cliff. Maybe somebody that has seen it at this time of year can confirm?

This is fabulous. Shame it's not a tad more vibrant in colour, but still an excellent shot. Great job

Hi Den,
I haven't visited that beach but know the cliff from you previous (stunning) up-load.
Have you used Google earth for checking sun angles before? Your composition facing the other way at sunrise may work.

Eli

I think it looks great Dennis, if you're worried about it being too left heavy then the sun more than makes up for it, great composition!

Sent you a pm re: Wedding photography.

Hi Dennis,

This is a great shot. The sand has a wonderful texture to it - even the dry patch, which I think makes a nice contrast with the wet bit. I can see why you wondered about it being a little left-heavy, though the more I look at it, the less I think that. Perhaps a slightly wider view, to make a bit more of the wonderful sky, would have worked well?

Thanks Mark. You could be right a few more steps back might have helped. Should have got there earlier so I could plan the shot better.

To be honest it is growing on me the more I look at it. I think the biggest problem might be all the kelp wrapped around the lower legs which is stopping your eye travelling into the image?

A very pleasing image . Perhaps not exactly what you would like from the location . I myself always come away thinking if only I had done this or that . I have been to some locations such as Bamburgh a 100 times and still come away with that feeling . Ah well may be the next time . Congrats. on your forthcoming wedding and hoipe all your plans go well ....Phil

You decided against the clamber over the rocks at Salrwick then? Wink

This is fairly well balanced by the diagonal of clouds on the right, so I wouldn't worry too much, it looks fine from here.
