I took this at the beach this morning. I applied a cooling filter to try to show how cold it was, but its still lacking something, but I dont know what. Any comments gratefully received

It's a loverly capture but cropping the sky down to the sun would get rid of the central horizon (which is a bit skew) and make the image much stronger.
The lead in is great and the empty bench poignant. The rocks are dramatic and the light on them very nice. So I'd just straighten it and crop that (loverly but distracting) sky. Try scrolling up.

Thanks Patricia, yes it does look better cropping the sky. I have tried to straighten the horizon in PS but when I use the ruler tool and mark along it, it comes out as being straight, but it does look slightly skew to me as well, but I wasnt sure it that might be just because of the light and shadows?

Don't worry about cooling it off. Natural is the way to go. Temperature cold is different from light cold and you do have some warm light here so why not use it?

I think the basic composition is good although I agree it doesn't obey the classic rule of thirds with the horizon bisecting the picture. It's possible to lighten and pull quite a lot more detail out of the rocks and walkway - see my mod.
Andy

I do apologies, the horizon is absolutely straight!

Couldn't resist doing a 2 minute mod though, hope you like it Smile

Thanks for the comments everyone they'll really help. And all the mods look super, I need to have a play around myself now Smile

Personally I like the sky better than the sea defences. Thought it looked good as a B&W and wanted to get rid of the post to the left of the bench.

Have uploaded a Mod.

Great shot and found the comments and mods very informative. I like the 2nd and 3rd mods best.
