This is a photo I have always wanted to take and what really "floats my boat" in the astronomy world.
Taken last night at a friends house near Lincoln, I managed to capture this between the clouds.
This emission nebula is over 1600 light years away .... and you thought it was a long walk to the corner shop !!
Taken using a 120mm Refracting telescope and a modified Canon 450D camera at prime focus.

Hi Mike, yes my son just told me that too - its an incredible sight, if u wish to use it as a screensaver you have my permission ![]()
Many thanks everyone for your kind comments, I was not sure how astronomy photos would be received on here and i still have an awful lot to learn with astrophotography though this is my favourite so far ![]()
To Skeleton and anyone else who may be interested in learning the astrophotography side then just give me a call. I still have a great deal to learn but I am happy to share what I have learned so far (for free). I have also written a few tutorials on my homepage - best not advertise on here openly but details are in my profile.
Hi Zatoichi, up to only about 10 years ago it probably was just NASA but now with the advances of digital photography and sharp telescopes and "a lot of patience", the sky is the limit ... err so to speak
The camera does have the infrared blocking filter removed so it is now more sensitive to the red end of the spectrum which really helps when imaging nebulas.
Superb capture - amazing colours
Well deserved awards ![]()
